Physical Protection Measures

The Commission may make necessary arrangements to protect the safety of a person who assists
the Commission or to protect the person from intimidation or harassment. This protection can
extend to any other person, for example a family member of a person who is assisting the
Commission.
The Commission may request the Commissioner of Police or another public body or public official to
assist with providing the protection.
The Commission may adopt special measures at a hearing to protect a witness or another person
from intimidation, distress or safety risks. Special measures may include the use of a screen or other
arrangement to prevent the witness from seeing other persons in the hearing, the presence of a
support person, planned seating arrangements, relocation of the hearing or part of the hearing to
other premises, exclusion of people from the hearing room, permitting evidence to be given from
another place other than the hearing room by means of closed-circuit television or other facilities.
