The Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) is continuing its nationwide efforts to strengthen integrity and accountability across Papua New Guinea, with preparations underway for the second Commissioner’s Regional Breakfast Workshop for 2026.

The upcoming event will be held in Lae, Morobe Province on 18 June, following the successful workshop for the Highlands Region earlier this year.

The Commissioner’s Regional Breakfast Workshop is part of a series of four regional engagements planned for this year. These workshops are designed to build stronger partnerships with provincial leaders and reinforce good governance practices at the sub-national level.

Held under the theme “Engaging Provincial Leadership: Promoting Integrity and Accountability Through Partnerships,” the one-day workshop will bring together:

• Provincial Governors
• Provincial Administrators
• Senior public servants from across the Momase Region

Participants will gain a deeper understanding of ICAC’s role and functions, while also exploring ways to work together in preventing and addressing corruption.

More than 100 leaders from West Sepik, East Sepik, Madang, and Morobe provinces are expected to attend.

Key discussions will focus on:

• Ethical and responsible leadership
• The role of public administration in delivering services
• Effective management of public resources
• Strengthening accountability in governance

This engagement forms part of the ICAC’s broader mission to raise awareness and encourage active participation in building transparent and accountable systems across all levels of government.

Following the public sector workshop, the ICAC will also host a Commissioner’s Breakfast Session for the business community on 19 June in Lae.

Under the theme “Engaging Provincial Business Leaders: Promoting Integrity and Accountability Through Partnerships,” the session will bring together business leaders to engage directly with ICAC Commissioners.

This dialogue recognises that corruption can occur at the intersection of public and private sector activities. The session aims to:

• Increase understanding of the ICAC’s mandate
• Promote ethical business practices
• Encourage compliance in dealings with public funds and or institutions

Approximately 80 participants are expected to attend the three-hour session.

As part of the visit to Lae, the ICAC Commissioners will also engage with students at three secondary schools. These awareness sessions will focus on:

• Integrity and ethics
• Civic responsibility
• The importance of standing against corruption

Preparations for the Momase regional engagements are being coordinated and facilitated by the ICAC’s Prevention and Engagements Division with support from the Australia Papua New Guinea Law & Justice Program and United Nations Development Program.

The Commissioner’s Regional Engagements continue to serve as a vital platform for collaboration between government, business, and communities. By fostering partnerships and strengthening awareness, the ICAC aims to build a united front in promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance across Papua New Guinea.
