Independence and Accountability

 

The Independent Commission Against Corruption under Section 220F of the Constitution is not subject to the direction and control of any person or authority in the performance of its functions and powers.

ICAC is accountable to the people of Papua New Guinea and the Government through:

1. Annual Report
It is a requirement under the Constitution (Section 220H) and under the Organic Law on the Independent Commission Against Corruption (OLICAC) Section 111
for ICAC to produce an Annual Report to be presented to the Speaker of Parliament by 31 st March each year.

2. Oversight Committee
The Constitution under (Section 220D) and under the Organic Law on the Independent Commission Against Corruption (Section 144) provides for the Committee to review and report on ICAC functions, operations and exercise of powers but cannot interfere with decision-making or how ICAC has dealt with
individual complaints.
